Jimmy Garoppolo ruled out for season, fans react
Even before the San Francisco 49ers took the field for the second half against the Miami Dolphins, word spread that Jimmy Garoppolo would be out for the rest of the season. This is the second time this franchise has been dealt a blow in terms of their starting quarterback, following the loss of Trey Lance.
Jimmy Garoppolo, who has been plagued by injuries throughout his professional career, was arguably in the best shape of his life. However, the veteran quarterback has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a broken left foot.
That being said, now that Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance are both out, Brock Purdy, the rookie, must step up and deliver. When the latter did so and threw his first touchdown pass in the NFL on his first drive, all Niners felt an unexpected rush of joy. Purdy finished the game against the Dolphins with a passer rating of 88.8 after going 5-of-37 for 210 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.
NFL fans react to Jimmy Garoppolo's announcement that he will miss the rest of the 2022-23 season.
In terms of the specific injury, it occurred with just 11 minutes and 22 seconds remaining in the first quarter, when Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker and end Jaelen Phillips converged on Jimmy Garoppolo for a sack. Garoppolo's foot got caught under Phillips as he tried to maintain his balance and momentum.
This foot injury is the latest in a long line of setbacks for Garoppolo since his arrival in San Francisco in 2017. To summarize, this veteran quarterback tore his left ACL in 2018, suffered a pair of high right ankle sprains in 2020, and suffered a fractured right thumb and sprained right shoulder in 2021. Consider how NFL fans reacted to the same news-

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this!! A Bengals fan wishes you a speedy recovery; no player should be injured — polly kellerman (@prkellerman) December 5, 2022
Garoppolo had 2,437 yards and 16 touchdowns with four interceptions in 11 appearances before the injury, completing 67.2% of his passes.
